Per molti anni, Cartello VDL è rimasto nell'ombra del suo celebre fratello Cardento, ma negli ultimi anni è diventato uno dei migliori saltatori del mondo. Dopo fantastiche prestazioni con James Billington, Cormac Hanley e Lorcan Gallagher, ha preso le redini il top rider irlandese Darragh Kenny. Nel 2021, la carriera di Cartello VDL ha raggiunto il massimo livello, rappresentando l'Irlanda ai Giochi Olimpici di Tokyo. L'impressionante stallone grigio ha saltato in modo spettacolare, qualificandosi per la finale individuale. Successivamente, Cartello VDL è stato uno dei pochi cavalli a realizzare un doppio percorso netto nella finale della FEI Nations Cup di Barcellona e si è classificato 6° nel Gran Premio del Global Champions Tour di Samorin.
