In the world of modern sport horse breeding, stallions often take the spotlight. However, the true genetic foundation of success lies in the maternal lines—those that consistently and reliably produce international-level champions.
In this newsletter, we invite you to discover the pedigrees of some of the stallions in our catalog, and together we’ll reveal the extraordinary value of their dams.
The stallion Escape Z, currently competing up to 1.55m, is sired by the legendary Emerald and out of the famous mare Promesse (Heartbreaker x Carthago).
Promesse is also the dam of the outstanding Untouchable 27 (1.60m), one of the most influential stallions in Europe, by Hors la Loi III.
This line also produced the refined inbreeding of Ecclestone Z, son of Escape Z and out of another daughter of Promesse, this time crossed with Cassini I.
Ecclestone represents the prototype of the modern sport horse: responsive, attentive, powerful, and structurally harmonious.
The mare Valentina van’t Heike (Nabab de Rêve x Lys de Darmen), an international champion with Jos Lansink, is now a cornerstone of breeding. Among her offspring:
Epleaser van’t Heike (1.60m) – by For Pleasure, a champion under Christian Ahlmann
Chaudfontaine JL Z (1.35m) – a promising young stallion by Chacco Blue, ridden by Robert Murphy
Notting Hill JL (1.35m) – by Cumano, also out of Valentina: power and sensitivity
Chaccolino JL Z – a young and promising stallion by Chacco Blue out of Olympic mare Valentina van’t Heike, showing exceptional jumping talent, technique, and reflexes.
Valentina consistently passes on her outstanding qualities, with each cross carefully selected to enhance her legacy through the sire’s influence.
Another top horse bred by Jos Lansink is Akarad Hero Z, by the powerful Aganix du Seigneur out of China Touch Hero (by Chin Chin).
China Touch Hero is an extraordinary broodmare and also the dam of one of the most widely used stallions in the world:
Don’t Touch Tiji Hero, by Diamant de Semilly, making him the maternal brother of Akarad.
Though his sport career was cut short due to injury, rider Gudrun Patteet still describes him as “one of the best horses of my life.” Today, his offspring compete at the highest level (1.60m) worldwide.
Akarad Hero Z proved his own talent in the ring, jumping up to 1.60m with Belgian rider Pieter Clemens, and he stands as both a genetic and sport guarantee.
One of the most celebrated dam lines in show jumping is that of Carthina Z.
We continue this legacy through the stallion GFE Jilbert van’t Ruytershof, currently competing up to 1.55m with Ramatou Ouedraogo, after earlier success at 1.60m with Constant van Paesschen.
Jilbert is by Numero Uno out of Gianthina van’t Ruytershof (Cartani x Diamanthina van’t Ruytershof).
Diamanthina, full sister to Emerald, brings power, reflexes, and modern scope to this lineage.
Jilbert’s brother is Pegase van’t Ruytershof, BWP champion stallion in 2018 (Comme Il Faut x Gianthina).
But there’s more: Pegase’s full sister, Pearl van’t Ruytershof, is the dam of the promising Tiger van’t Ruytershof, a young stallion by Chacfly PS, ridden by Harrie Smolders.
Currently successful on the young horse circuits, Tiger already shows intelligence, blood, and technique, confirming the strength of this dynasty.
Chao Lee is a perfect example of the importance of dam lines in modern breeding.
She is the dam of the champion Forlee and shone herself on the international stage with victories including gold at the 2018 Bundeschampionat and a World Championship title for young horses in Lanaken.
Even today, under Katrin Eckermann, she competes at 1.50–1.55m level.
It’s truly extraordinary to see both mother and son competing at top level in the same show.
Fit for Fun was for years one of the most beloved and respected mares on the global circuit. Under Luciana Diniz, she shone in the biggest international GPs up to 1.70m – from Aachen to the Rio Olympics, finishing 9th.
Powerful, attentive, fast, and incredibly rideable: a true icon of our sport.
With Diamant de Semilly as sire and For Pleasure as grandsire, Dark for Fun, despite his young age, carries on a winning bloodline, ideal for those seeking the future of show jumping.
Behind every champion stands a carefully considered genetic plan—but most importantly, there’s always a broodmare who passes on value, mentality, and power.
At Elvo Stallions, we select and promote stallions not only for their sport talent, but also for the reliability and depth of their maternal lines.
